So, overall I’m really happy with the course! I like that Bob adds personal experience and stories into the lessons to make it relatable ! The course content is really good too. I do feel like it’s pushed me more & I’ve learnt a lot so far! And looking forward to achieving the overall  pass!!! I was worried about the presentations etc but doing them really does help to build confidence and I was actually surprised that I enjoyed watching the receptive videos to decipher the meaning ! Very challenging in a positive way!

BSL level 4 – 2023/2024

I enjoyed learning BSL level 4 with Bob and my class on Zoom.  It was well organised and easy to communicate with Bob about exams and the course.  The other people in the class were lovely and it was interesting watching different signers from around the country and sharing our views. We supported each other and Bob made it fun and with his sarcasm and humour, you will have great time on this course.  I highly recommend.  So much so I am now on his course learning BSL level 6.

Bob was friendly and happy to go at a slower pace for those of us just starting off with no Makaton
experience. Photo images when learning new vocab I found helpful – had no worries about the
exam.

BSL Level 1 to 6 - 2018 to 2022

British Sign Language (BSL) Level 4 Course

The Level 4 Certificate in British Sign Language (BSL) meets the learning needs of those who already have competence in British Sign Language at Level 3 and are interested in developing their skills and knowledge. It is designed for those who work with, or want to work with, Deaf people (e.g. social workers, teachers of the Deaf, voluntary workers, workers within Deaf organisations, schools, etc.), and those who wish to expand their knowledge and skills in British Sign Language.

The assessment criteria is taken from the UK Occupational Language Standards at Level 4 (‘extended’ language use). This qualification is at Level 4 on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), ‘Extended Level’ on the Language Ladder, and Level B2/C1 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Candidates must demonstrate both receptive and productive BSL skills at level 4, and in all of the six topics that make up this qualification. Assessments may cover any of the topics listed in this qualification. The natural context of using BSL is in two-way interactions (discussions, conversations, debates etc.), as well as one-way interactions (monologues, presentations etc.). The candidate is therefore expected to demonstrate receptive and productive skills in both two-way and oneway interactions.
