Since starting the course in October, I feel extremely privileged to have been chosen to learn this wonderful new language. Although not a natural signer, I am increasing confidence weekly, with the support from Bob and the rest of the students.

Learning BSL has opened my eyes to not only a new language, but to the world of the deaf community. I am now actively involved in BSL groups, have made friends at my local Deaf club, and am using my new skills to help retrain to support deaf and hearing impaired primary aged children. I feel that everyone should have an understanding of BSL, and will try my best to be an advocate and encourage others to learn. I love this new community I am part of, and want everyone to know about it!

Level 2 BSL Course Overview

The Level 2 BSL qualification consists of three key units:

BSL 201 – Receptive Skills

Learners will develop their ability to understand the general meaning and specific details of BSL communication. This unit emphasises comprehension of information delivered through signing, including facial expressions and body language.

BSL 202 – Productive Skills

This unit focuses on learners presenting information accurately in British Sign Language, demonstrating only minor grammatical errors while maintaining meaning. If vocabulary gaps arise, learners will explore alternative methods of conveying information.

BSL 203 – Conversational Skills

Combining receptive and productive skills, this unit prepares learners to participate in routine conversations with BSL users, showcasing their ability to exchange and understand information effectively.
