BSL Course | Level 1

BSL Level 1 

  • Qualification Aim:  This qualification aims to enable learners to develop suitable and sufficient skills to communicate with Deaf people in British Sign Language (BSL) on everyday topics in accordance with the National Language Standards at Level 1.
  • Qualification Objective: At the end of the qualification, learners will be able to:  Understand narrations of simple information presented to them in BSL;  develop the ability to describe events, issues or matters in BSL, particularly at work, school or college;  engage in simple conversation with Deaf people, both in social situations and in the workplace or at school/college.

Our BSL Level course is fully accredited by the Institute of British Sign Language (iBSL) and recognised by Ofqual (the Office of the Regulator for Qualifications, Examinations and Assessments in England). 


  • Qualification Structure

           IBSL 1A1— Receptive Skills in BSL

           IBSL 1A2—Descriptive Skills in BSL

           IBSL 1A3—Conversational Skills in BSL

In your class you will learn BSL in 60 hours worth of training with a fully qualified and experienced BSL Teacher.  

Half the lessons will consist of PowerPoint presentations and handouts. 

The other half will be practicing sign language, group work and games. 

Date: Monday 4th September 2017 (20 weeks) at Basingstoke

         Tuesday 5th September 2017 (20 weeks) at Weybridge

Held in the evenings in the Basingstoke and Guildford areas. 


Course fee is available to pay in instalments at no extra cost.
